This report presents the endline evaluation of the Sustainable and Inclusive WASH Project, implemented by Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) with support from IFRC, British Red Cross, and Finnish Red Cross across Okhaldhunga, Ramechhap, and Sindhuli districts in Nepal.
Conducted between December 2023 and February 2024, the evaluation assessed the two-year project’s performance against the OECD DAC criteria of relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, sustainability, and impact, drawing on a household survey of 300 beneficiaries, 12 focus group discussions, and 22 key informant interviews.
Findings show the project was rated relevant, highly satisfactory in effectiveness, and satisfactory in efficiency, with significant positive impact and a likely sustainability outlook. Water availability increased across all eight completed schemes, collection time and costs fell (notably through solar-powered lifting systems), sanitation and hygiene knowledge improved, and Water User Committees were strengthened institutionally to manage systems independently going forward. The report closes with recommendations on promoting Multiple Use Systems of water, embedding disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation into future designs, and strengthening water source conservation to sustain gains beyond the project’s lifetime.
