A checklist of assessment questions for a rapid field assessment after a Mass Sanitation Module is deployed in an emergency. It is designed to identify urgent sanitation and hygiene risks, the resources and conditions to take into account when designing a response, early baseline data for monitoring, and where a more detailed assessment is needed.
Questions cover the overall public health situation, settlement layout, toilets and excreta disposal, disease spread by insects and animals, solid waste, drainage, and management of dead bodies. Each question is matched to suggested ways of finding the answer, such as observation, interviews or focus groups.
The checklist is generic and should be adapted to the context. British Red Cross and IFRC.
