Europe

The IFRC Europe Region Office supports WASH initiatives from western European nations to Central Asia. Though the region includes many countries with established infrastructure, significant disparities exist, particularly in rural areas, informal settlements, and among marginalized communities.

Climate change impacts, aging infrastructure, and growing water stress present emerging challenges for the region. Our teams leverage regional expertise to improve WASH resilience and ensure that no communities are left behind in achieving universal access to clean water and sanitation.

A Global Operational Direction for Water Security 2024 - 2030

Water security allows us to expand our impact, building healthy and resilient communities in the context of climate change and rapid urban growth. Communities enjoy water security when they successfully manage their water resources and services at all times to meet all their water-related needs.

Water security is a unifying concept that includes frames global goals and targets for human development and resilience, such as health, climate change and adaptation, livelihoods, healthy ecosystems, economic growth and peace.
