Epidemics and pandemics are some of the biggest threats to a safe and healthy world. But with effective preparedness and response measures – including clean water, proper sanitation and good hygiene – we can reduce their impacts and even stop them in their tracks.
Among countless successes, this report features seven powerful stories of how National Societies have improved epidemic preparedness and response around the world through the Programmatic Partnership with the European Union, including:
- Yemen Red Crescent Society has provided communities with water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities and trusted health information so they can keep themselves safe from disease threats.
- Cameroon Red Cross Society swiftly detected and helped contain an outbreak in late 2024, significantly reducing its impact
on communities.
- In El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, Red Cross Societies have established community health committees to promote healthy practices, lead disease prevention and hygiene promotion activities, and quickly detect and report unusual health events to authorities to stop epidemics in their tracks.
