A guide for running focus group discussions with communities during assessment or monitoring of a cholera or acute watery diarrhoea programme. Guidance on protection, gender and inclusion, and on community engagement and accountability, is built in, including how to make discussions accessible to people with disabilities, older people and minority groups.
It has three parts: advice on planning and running a good discussion, the questions themselves, and a format for writing up what was said. It explains the roles of the facilitator and note taker, how to get people’s consent, and common mistakes to avoid.
