2 hour PGI in WASH session – example outline

By the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • Describe the core concepts of PGI in relation to WASH, including the key terms: dignity, access, participation and safety.
  • State why it is important to integrate PGI considerations into WASH.
  • Explain that different individuals have different needs and face different challenges, with respect to dignity, access, participation and safety around WASH (including menstrual hygiene and incontinence).
  • State some actions or ways that people’s different needs and challenges can be addressed or overcome as part of WASH programming.
  • Understand some practical ways that PGI can be integrated into an emergency WASH response.
  • Reflect that some people are able to participate, and be listened to, in community decision making processes (and that sometimes “outsiders” such as project staff make all the decisions for people anyway).
  • Describe how different people have different power, and how this can lead to exclusion from WASH –in terms of facilities, information and the decision making process.
  • Reflect what violence and safety means to different groups/individuals, in relation to WASH.
