Training report: Building global capacity for MHM in emergencies 2025 (Austrian Red Cross)

Final report – Austrian Red Cross Menstrual Hygiene Training

16th – 21st July 2025, Feldkirch, Austria

This is specialisation training within AutRCs emergency WASH training pathway, and it’s focus is on applying the IFRC Hygiene Promotion framework and its tools on the topic of MHM. The skills developed are applicable for any HP topic. The training aimed to prepare AutRC and NS staff and volunteers to implement  high quality HP and MHM programmes and operations which adhere to IFRC WASH guidelines for hygiene promotion in emergencies.

This training was situated in a real-world music festival, with real festival guests who can be approached to talk about menstrual health & hygiene, which provided the opportunity to develop skills and confidence via practical trial and error, without running into ethical problems.

A short report from a male training participant from Lebanon Red Cross is also available, contributing personal and important tacit knowledge on MHM and gender within humanitarian organizations.
