Americas

The IFRC Americas Region Office coordinates WASH programming across 35 countries spanning North America, the Caribbean, Central and South America. This region faces diverse challenges, from hurricane-prone islands requiring rapid emergency WASH response to isolated Amazonian and Andean communities needing sustainable long-term solutions.

Climate variability, increasing urbanization, and socioeconomic inequalities continue to challenge progress. Our approach combines traditional knowledge with modern approaches, particularly focusing on indigenous communities, people on the move and informal urban settlements.

Central America WASH Hub

Strengthening humanitarian anticipation and response in water, sanitation, and hygiene

The WASH HUB is a unique regional center that brings together logistical, technical, and human capacities to anticipate and respond to emergencies, and to strengthen water, sanitation, and hygiene operations.

The initiative was launched in 2023 following an agreement among different Red Cross National Societies in Central America, with the goal of providing localized solutions focused on strengthening community resilience.
